Methedrome

Methedrome is also known as Mephedrone,  Mephedrome, 4-Methylmethcathinone, 4-MMC, MMCAT, MEOW, MCAT, MEAOW, Bubbles and Plant Feeder.

It is most commonly known on the street as ‘bubble’, other names for the drug are “drone” and “meow meow”. Mephedrone which can be bought over the internet is most commonly sold as a white powder (costing around £10.00 per gram) it can also be found in crystal form and capsules containing the powder. It is now starting to be found in pill format.

It is a stimulant and belongs to a class of psychoactive drugs that produce distinctive emotional and social effects similar to those of MDMA (“Ecstasy”).

Growing numbers of teenagers and young people are receiving emergency medical treatment after being harmed by a legal drug that has the same effects as ecstasy and cocaine.
Users of Mephedrone are ending up with nose bleeds and burns, paranoia, heart palpitations, insomnia and memory problems. Some have had such a strong reaction to it that their hearts have stopped and they have had to be resuscitated.

Effects

The drug’s intended effects include increased alertness, euphoria, excitement, feeling of stimulation, urge to talk, and openness.

Side effects

According to the Darlington Drug and Alcohol Action Team it can cause nose bleeds, nose burns, hallucinations, blood circulation problems, rashes, anxiety, paranoia, fits and delusions. Other problems may include poor concentration, poor short-term memory, tachycardia, palpitations, anxiety, depression, hyperhidrosis (excessive and uncontrolable sweating), mydriasis (dilated pupils), trismus (restricts ability to open mouth), and bruxism (teeth grinding).
