Struggling with putting a cotton bud up your nose and in your throat for the covid test? The new child friendly saliva covid test doesn’t require a swab making it much easier to use. This is how it works…
As restrictions lift and people look forward to moving closer to normality, caution is still being urged by Government and scientists. As a result, many people are choosing to continue wearing masks in crowded places, whilst others are increasing Covid tests to help reduce the spread of the virus and protect the vulnerable.
The rapid lateral flow Covid tests have been a valuable tool in the fight against Covid over recent months alongside vaccines, but many people have found them too difficult or uncomfortable for regular use.
Now, there’s a new test available more suitable for children and the elderly, which is likely to prove popular with those who struggle with the sensation of a cotton bud (swab) in the nose and throat.
The COVID-19 Antigen Saliva Test Kit has been specifically designed to make Covid testing easier and painless for people of all ages to use at home.
It works by detecting the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 that causes COVID-19 in human oral fluid (your saliva). You simply spit into a tube rather than sticking anything in your mouth or up your nose.
The award-winning home health test provider Home Health UK have featured a handy illustrated guide on how to use the test. You simply cough 3-5 times (observing current safety protocols around others) before spitting saliva into a tube via a funnel. A buffer liquid is then added to your sample and squeezed to gently mix the two components.
To see your result, you add two drops of your saliva/buffer mix to a specimen well via the dropper and wait for the test to analyse and develop. Results are available after 20 minutes.
Refer to the full instructions that come with the test to ensure you carry out the test properly. Guidance is available here on the Home Health website along with information on how to interpret the results. If the test shows a positive result, you will need to take a PCR test at your local health centre or GP to confirm if you have Covid-19.
