Lyme disease is caused by a type of bacteria called Borrelia Burgdorferi and is transmitted to animals and humans via black-legged ticks. The symptoms of Lyme disease can be detrimental to health if left untreated. They often include a high temperature, headache, and fatigue. A skin rash may also develop, known as erythema migrans.
There are roughly 1500 confirmed cases of Lyme disease annually in the UK. Blood tests are a useful tool in detecting antibodies to the bacteria (serology), this can identify the presence of the bacteria in the body. Our Lyme disease blood tests are for professional use only. We provide our medical test kits to both the NHS and private healthcare providers.
