Gonorrhea is the second most common STD in the UK. It is caused by the bacteria mainly found in discharge from the penis and vaginal fluid. The bacterium grows and multiplies quickly in moist, warm areas of the body. Typical symptoms in women include pain or burning when urinating, low abdominal pain or a change in vaginal discharge. Symptoms in men are often more noticeable and include discharge from the penis tip, burning sensation when urinating and irritation from the anus.
Early diagnosis and treatment of Gonorrhea reduces the risk of complications developing, including pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) or testicle infections. If left untreated, difficulties can arise and become harder to treat. Symptoms usually develop within two weeks of being affected but can not appear until months later. Following a positive result, please seek further medical advice.
